There will also be a ceremony at the park on Memorial Day, so you can spend time with others who wish to honor those who died while serving the country.
About the Memorial Day Ceremony
The Franklin County Memorial Commission has yet to announce its plans for the 2018 Memorial Day ceremony, but it will likely be similar to the ceremony held in 2017. The 2017 Memorial Day Ceremony included guest speakers with strong local ties.
The Franklin County High School JROTC was also on hand. The group presented the colors and the pledge. The event also had music, a commemorative wreath, and more. A luncheon followed for veterans and their families.

Make a Day of It
If you go to the Veteran’s Memorial Park, you don’t have to turn around and drive home after you pay your respects. The park has a canoe/kayak takeout ramp, so you can bring your equipment and go for a ride. It’ll be nice to go out on the water while reflecting about the memorial. You can also go to nearby Lynch Park. Not only does it have a boulder playground, but it’s right by the Pigg River. That’s the place to go for fishing and picnicking.
