From the fascinating galleries to the educational programs, there is so much to do and see here at the center. People of all ages can enjoy the experience. The Galleries
The center’s galleries are undoubtedly among the most popular features. Here, you can see artwork from talented artists. Let their works move you and tell stories. You can check out the Satellite Exhibits, which include a large collection of stunning art. Currently, you can see watercolors from Laura Eagle Watts and archival pigment prints from Steven Francis Coates. There is also “La Femme Salon,” which includes 3D art from several artists. The works are made of wood, metal, clay, and other forms.
The Up Front Gallery changes monthly and includes amazing photographs from Mike Gresham and John Shuptrine. You can also see drawings and prints from Bill Harris. Lastly, the Ann White Academy Gallery has mixed media paintings and portraits.

Kids’ Classes
So if your kids need something to do this summer to get them off their phones and computers, enroll them in a class at the Academy Center of the Arts. One intriguing opportunity may be the Youth Video Game Art & Painting Camp. It runs from June 6 to 10, from 9:30 a.m. to noon each day. It’s for kids ages 8 to 13 and costs $135. The class will talk about the fundamentals of painting and color theory. Kids will also learn about video game illustration and how to develop video-game characters. Additionally, there are painting camps and sculpture camps. Your musically inclined kids may enjoy the drumline camp.

Blackwater Music Festival
Lastly, don’t miss out on the Blackwater Music Festival this summer. This two-day celebration will be held Aug. 26-27 at Riverfront Park on 1100 Jefferson St. Costs range from $80 to $250. Come and listen to local, regional, and international country artists. For instance, the acts Parmalee and Hunter Hayes will be making appearances to entertain.
