What Is The Taubman Museum of Art?

The Taubman Museum of Art is located in the downtown area of Roanoke, VA. The museum pulls from its surrounding area to give each guest an experience they will not forget.

The building itself was designed by architect Randall Stout, who pulled naturalistic elements from the Roanoke region. Both materials and architectural decisions were purposefully designed. Like the 77-foot glass peak in the atrium, this feature references the point of the Roanoke Star. The undulating roofline reflects the Blue Ridge Mountains.

There are over eleven galleries featured throughout the museum. Taubman Museum of Art originates 15 to 20 exhibitions per year. These exhibitions feature artists like Sally Mann, Kehinde Wiley, Norman Rockwell, and John James Audubon. The museum is also home to a permanent collection of artwork. The galleries feature works from John Cage, Petah Coyne, John Singer Sargent, Purvis Young, and more.
