Chose to drive around Virginia in a powerful and stylish muscle car, and you will have a few main choices. If you aren’t in the mood to splurge on a luxury model, you will find yourself comparing the Ford Mustang to the Chevrolet Camaro. Both of these models have a rich history of racing and performance, meaning you can’t go wrong regardless of which one you choose. That being said, you should still take a closer look at what sets the Mustang and Camaro apart to make an informed purchase.
Exterior Styling
The first thing you will notice about the two muscle cars is their unique exteriors. Both models have influences from their rich histories combined with modern features. The 2016 Mustang, for example, has the signature segmented taillights featuring sequential turn signals, cab-rearward proportions, and grille, but the rest of it is sculpted and slick. The result is a large car that manages to be aerodynamic. The 2016 Camaro also saw some recent updates, but it hasn’t been dramatically redone since 2010. That being said, Virginia drivers will simply have to pick which styling they prefer.
Power and Performance
Due to the nature of these vehicles, most people want to compare the mechanical components and powertrains of the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro. The Ford gives you 310 horsepower plus 320 pound-feet with its 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. The equivalent 2-liter engine in the Chevrolet generates 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet.
If you want V6 engines, the Camaro takes the Mustang’s original power lead, but not by much. Its 3.6-liter generates 335 horses and 284 pound-feet while the Mustang has a 3.7-liter with 300 horses and 280 pound-feet. For even more power, you can upgrade to the 455-horsepower 6.2-liter LT1 V8 in the Camaro SS or the 435-horsepower 5-liter Coyote V8 in the Mustang GT. Because the Ford Mustang comes standard with its V6 while the Camaro has the 4-cylinder as standard, the Mustang has much more standard horsepower, but the Camaro can give you more with upgrades.
