Events To Look Out For This Month

Summer is well under way. You may have had a full month of activities in June, but there is still plenty to do in July. For Roanoke residents, here are some engaging events that will take place in and around Roanoke, Virginia, that you will not want to miss.

Carnivals & Fairs

Summertime is perfect to gather with friends and family at local carnivals or fairs. There are several to enjoy in the great state of Virginia. Just about half an hour away from Roanoke, the city of Buchanan will be hosting the 69th annual Buchanan Community Carnival. The carnival began on June 29th, but will continue through Saturday, July 8th. Each night at the carnival, there will be excellent live performances. Along with the music entertainment there will be amusement goods and tasty carnival fare.

If you live near closer to Salem, then you may want to attend the Salem Fair. The Salem Fair will be taking place from June 28th through July 9th for the year 2023. If you have never attended this annual fair in Salem, then you are missing a real treat. There are plenty of wonderful attractions, and there is something that each member of the family will love. There are animal races and exhibits, including an exhibit showcasing Australian wildlife. Everyone can be entertained by the sweet tunes of the performers that will be playing on the music stage each night.

T-Rex Trail

If you would like to feel like Jeff Goldblum or Chris Pratt for one day, then come hit the T-Rex Trail at Explore Park. In a wooded path that is only half a mile long, you can traverse through the woods as you see and hear dinosaurs from a number of time periods. There are nineteen of these animatronic dinosaurs to see on the trail. The trail has been opened since May but will be opened through August. At the park, there is also a dinosaur dig-pit and plenty of opportunities for you to take pictures.

Sunflower Festival

Everything is beautiful and bright during the summer season. You can enjoy creation at some of the local flower festivals. From July 14th through the 30th, there is the Sunflower Festival at Sinkland Farm. The Sunflower Festival. You can enjoy the spectacle of over a hundred thousand sunflower blooms. Along with looking at the flowers, you can pick your own as well as walk the beautiful trails and take amazing photos. Other attractions that are sure to peek your interest at this event are the food trucks and booths filled with amazing arts and crafts. There will also be some amazing live music performances at the festival for you and your family to enjoy while at the festival.

Events by the Water

If you are looking for something to do when you have a long weekend, then you should take a trip to Franklin County to witness the Concerts by Canoe. There will be a performance on July 21st as well as August 11th. Those performing on July 21st are the Alum Ridge Boys and Ashlee. The concert series is free and takes place on Philpott Lake. The musical performance will begin at 6:30, and you can enjoy the music from your boat or canoe.
