Freedom First St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Shamrock Festival

St. Patricks Day Parade

Let’s be honest for a second. St. Patrick’s Day can be stressful. You know when you go back to work everyone will ask what you did, and if you say something lame like, “watched TV in my PJs,” you’re going to get some eyerolls. This year you can show your coworkers just how much fun you can be by attending the Freedom First St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Shamrock Festival. Most of Roanoke is going to be there, and you don’t want to miss out. The parade starts at 11 a.m. on Jefferson Street at Elm Avenue, and the fun continues until 5 p.m.

The Parade

The people of Roanoke are going to show how much Irish pride they have during the parade. The Freedom First float will be the first one in the parade. The employee-decorated float will lead the other floats all the way to Williamson Road. There’s no telling what kind of floats there will be, but a gambling person would bet on a bagpiper or two. You also might spot a few pots of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Shamrock Festival

Parades are fun, but you want to party. It’s St. Paddy’s Day, after all. The Shamrock Festival will be at Wells Fargo Plaza, and there will be everything you need for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration. The bands haven’t been announced yet, but there will be hours of live music. Oh, and this might be a family-friendly festival, but you can still buy your favorite adult beverages. There will also be vendors on-site. Oh, and guess what? Admission is free.
