It’s National Car Care Month, Are You Prepared?

Battery Check

April is a time to celebrate. Anything to get our minds off taxes, right? It’s Pets Are Wonderful Month, World Landscape Architecture Month, and even School Library Month. We can only assume that last one involves a lot of whispering. But there’s something else to be aware of this April: It’s National Car Care Month, are you prepared? Here are a few reminders about regular maintenance and other suggestions.

Check Before You Travel

This time of year, as the weather gets warmer, you may be preparing to take a trip. Even before summer arrives, there are lots of exciting weekend destinations in Virginia and surrounding areas that are an easy drive away. Before you hit the road, consider these tips.

  • Make sure to check your tire pressure monthly and have your tires rotated and balanced regularly.
  • Your wipers should be replaced approximately every six months.
  • All your oil filters and fluids should be at the appropriate levels, including windshield washer fluids, air conditioning coolant, and oil.
  • Get a computerized battery test.
  • Have your brakes checked, especially if you plan to drive through mountainous or hilly areas.

Emergency Car Preparedness Kit

It’s always a good idea to be prepared. You never know what trouble you can come across while you are out driving. Here is a list of several items that you should probably carry with you in your car at all times.

  • Self-powered flashlights
  • A filled water bottle and snacks
  • A whistle
  • Emergency blankets
  • Cell chargers that are battery operated or solar charged
  • A pocket first aid kit
  • Vehicle escape tools
  • Car wipes and air fresheners

Be Safe

At Berglund Cars, we also want to remind you that it’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Making sure that you pay attention to the road is very important and not just during the month of April. Be sure to leave your cell phone alone while you are driving.
