Whether you’re on foot or a bike, this summer is perfect for hitting a nearby trail. Explore some of Lynchburg’s finest offerings. Furthermore, try as many as you can and make the most out of your outing.
Blackwater Creek Trail
The Blackwater Creek Trail is great for jogging, walking, and biking. You can test yourself and see how fast you can get through the trail. Or, you can take your time and enjoy a quiet stroll among the beautiful surroundings. The trail goes for 3 miles and takes you through a forested area. Along the way, there will be a lot to look at. There is plenty of wildlife and a variety of plants and trees on the route. There are four entrances to the trail, as well as public parking at the Ed Page and East Randolph Place entrances. Be aware that you’ll have limited access to the rail during the week, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and 2:30 to 4 p.m.
Creekside Trail
The Creekside Trail starts at the beginning of the Blackwater Creek Athletic Area. It goes alongside Blackwater Creek for about 5 miles. The springtime flowers bloom plentifully here and provide a gorgeous atmosphere. Wildlife, such as deer and beaver, visit the area throughout the year. The path is made of gravel, which lends itself to biking and hiking. On the trail, you’ll go over six bridges, crossing the peaceful creek.
Alpine Trail
This trail has long been a favorite for visitors and residents of the area alike. For instance, it has been around since the 1930s and continues to attract bikers and walkers. It’s just a mile long and takes you through a serene, wooded area through Riverside Park. There are also stunning views of the James River. If you are into bird watching, there will be plenty to like about this trail. It’s a frequent place for migrating hawks to pass over, for example. Importantly, stay on the marked path to preserve plant life.

Ivy Creek Greenway
This trail is a little longer than some of the others in the area. However, it’s not a rigorous walk, so novices or those wanting a little less challenging of an experience can enjoy it. It’s 1.7 miles long and passes through Peaks View Park. It also goes by the Bill Foot Recreation Area; therefore, you will have easy access to mountain biking and hiking.
