History and Overview of the Team
A minor league franchise, the Salem Red Sox currently competes in the Carolina League at the Single-A level. The team was formed and began to play in 1955 and has had an affiliation with several Major League franchises. Since 2009, the team has been a farm team for the Boston Red Sox.
Salem has won seven league titles in its history, including one in its first year of existence. The last title came in 2013. Also, Salem had captured 13 division championships, including one last season when the team went 71-49.
This Year’s Schedule
The 2022 season began on April 9 with an 11-8 victory over Lynchburg in front of a home crowd. There are plenty of opportunities to see the team in action. The regular season runs through Sept. 19 when the Red Sox wraps up with the Delmarva Shorebirds at home.
The Venue
The team plays at Salem Memorial Ballpark in Salem. The venue opened for play in August 1995. The ballpark has a capacity of 6,300 and offers gorgeous views of the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains. The Salem Memorial Ballpark hosted the 2006 Carolina League All-Star Game. The Red Sox shares the park with the Roanoke College baseball team.
