Get in Position
You need to begin by getting in the right position. You’ll likely notice that lots of beginners skate standing up straight, but that’s a mistake. Make sure your toes are pointed just a bit to the outside when you do this. You will start gliding after a few steps. Bring the skate back to the center when it’s time to push off between glides. Learn to Turn
Turning is very important when you’re skating at Elmwood on Ice. Ice rinks are circular after all, so if you can only go straight, you’ll be in some trouble. Use your outside shoulder to turn. If you want to turn left, move your right shoulder to the left, and if you want to turn right, move your left shoulder to the right.
