Simply deciding you want to drive a luxurious Lincoln sedan around Lynchburg isn’t enough. Since the automaker has several different models spanning sizes and body styles, many Virginia residents find themselves wondering whether they should buy the Lincoln MKS or MKZ. While both are sedans, they have many differences that help them appeal to different markets. However, their list of features is incredibly similar.
Size and Pricing
The first thing you will notice about the Lincoln MKS and MKZ is their size difference. The MKZ is a compact sedan while the MKS is a midsize. As such, the MKS has a higher starting price, $39,010 MSRP** compared to $35,190**. The size difference is apparent inside the vehicles. Although the MKZ has more front-row legroom, the MKS has more front-row headroom and more second-row headroom and legroom, along with a much larger trunk. In fact, even the 15.4-cubic-foot trunk in the Lincoln MKZ is spacious for a compact while the MKS has a segment-leading 19.2-cube trunk.
Engines
Since the Lincoln MKS is larger and more expensive, it makes sense that it also has a more powerful engine. The standard engine on this model is a 305-horsepower, 3.7-liter V6, or you can get a 365-horsepower, 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged on the EcoBoost model. The MKZ actually lets you choose from three different engines, including a hybrid. The non-hybrid models have either a 240-horsepower, 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder or a 300-horsepower, 3.7-liter V6. The hybrid powertrain has 188 combined horsepower.
Fuel Economy
While the Lincoln MKS is the better option for drivers who want to maximize engine output, the MKZ is ideal if you prefer to go further on every tank of gas. After all, the MKS gets up to 22 mpg* combined, and the non-hybrid MKZ can give you as much as 26 mpg* combined. The MKZ Hybrid is the absolute best option for those who want to minimize their footprint or stops at the gas station with 40 mpg* combined.
